Well, I created this subforum, so I might as well be the first to post in it. I'm looking forward to seeing this forum grow.

Greg-
Thank You for getting this forum up and running! It will be nice to be able to ask questions and share experiences with our beehives.
This is our first winter-we condensed our 3 hive down to 2 (putting all brood together in bottom box) and condensed our 2 hive down to one and into a new Apimaye hive we purchased while at the Washington State Beekeepers Association meeting. We moved 2 frames of honey from our larger colony over to the smaller one, still not sure if either have the adequate resources needed.
It is a little nervous feeling to see the smaller quantity of bees allowing us to condense even though all we read says this is normal. It is almost a feeling of loss (being able to condense rather than grow).
We have ordered Hive hugger for both hives hoping to give them the best possible chance against cold stress, we have treated for mites twice and plan to use oxalic acid this next week as a final treatment before winter.

Has anyone tried making their own fondant?? Or should we purchase Hive Alive fondant this first year. We want to give them extra resources in case the honey and nectar they have stored is not enough.

Any feedback welcomed
